In this What is successful intelligence?
Intelligence is defined in terms of the ability to achieve success in life, in terms of ones personal standards, within one’s socio-cultural context.
The Theory of Successful Intelligence is particularly relevant to us who are often confronted with many vexed questions – What does success mean in life? How should we respond to changes in life, at work, in study, and in personal challenges? What are some of the strategies that would help us to succeed at work, in study, and in building relationship with others?
Our views of success is further complicated when we are learning with an era of information abundance, with ubiquitous social and learning networks surrounding us, and the ever-increasing demand of better use of our intelligence, abilities and talents both at work as a professional, an educator, a scholar, a student or learner, a parent, a partner, or a lover.
Where should we start to develop such intelligence? And how?
” The educational systems in many other countries place great emphasis on instruction and assessments that tap into two important skills: memory and, to a lesser extent, analysis. There is a problem, that children whose strengths are in other kinds of skills may be short changed by this system”
So, what societies need is a broader conception of intelligence, and that is successful intelligence.
I was quite impressed by Robert’s view that: People can be intelligent but foolish.
Why? People could be
– Unrealistic optimism
and so they would act foolish at times, despite of their high intelligence.
To this end, I like the emphasis of Imagination, Creativity and Innovation in this video
